Great scene work is through rehearsal: making choices, following impulses, listening deeply, trying something new, and discovering what happens when you stay with the work. In this six-week scene study intensive, you'll work closely with Joe Garcia on scenes that give you room to dig in. Each week, you'll return to your scene, developing character, relationships, circumstances, and the life of the piece through an active rehearsal process. Working with a scene partner, you'll explore what's on the page and what exists underneath it, testing choices, responding to adjustments, and allowing the work to become more specific, connected, and alive. Throughout the course, you'll: • Rehearse and develop scene work over multiple weeks. • Explore character, relationships, circumstances, and behavior through the text. • Strengthen listening, responsiveness, and connection with a scene partner. • Take creative risks and discover new possibilities through rehearsal. • Receive individualized direction and adjustments as the work develops. • Prepare selected scene work for a live showcase on the LACAE stage. The course culminates in a live showcase, giving you the opportunity to bring fully rehearsed work out of the classroom and onto the stage in front of an audience. Instructor Spotlight Joe Garcia is an award-winning actor, director, and teacher with four decades of experience. Known by his students as an "actor's coach," Joe's work centers on helping actors move beyond performance for performance's sake and toward choices that are specific, connected, spontaneous, and deeply human.
