Service Description

The Work A song is far more than a sequence of melody and lyrics; it is a three-minute play. Sing Your Story is a rigorous interrogation of the heart of storytelling through the medium of song. This lab is designed for both seasoned vocalists and actors looking to find their voice, moving beyond the quest for technical perfection to explore the authentic narrative underneath. Under the guidance of Perry Hart, you will select material that resonates with your personal journey and begin the work of stripping away the "performance." We treat music as dramatic literature, focusing on vulnerability, connection, and the internal life of the singer. This is a sanctuary for those looking to polish a professional cabaret set or simply explore their vocal range in a high-level, supportive environment. The experience culminates in an intimate Singer Salon on our main stage, where you will share your narrative with a live audience. The Result: You will walk away with a deeper connection to your vocal instrument and a refined ability to analyze a song as a dramatic text. You will leave with the professional polish that comes from master-level coaching, a heightened awareness of your narrative "heart," and the confidence to step onto any stage as a storyteller. All students will perform at our end of class show at the LACAE Theater Instructor Spotlight Perry Hart is a true industry legend with 30 years of experience as a Professor and Head of Vocal Production at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. An award-winning Musical Director (LA Drama Critics Circle Award), Perry served as the Vocal Arranger and Coach for Debbie Reynolds for two decades. As a celebrated performer himself (String of Pearls), he brings a lifetime of world-class insights to every student, fostering an environment where craft and inspiration meet. Course Details Capacity: Strictly limited to 10 students to ensure individual coaching and rehearsal time. Performer Pass: This intensive is included for all Performer Pass members at no extra cost.
