Experience Level: All Recommended for: Actors and Writers who want to learn a story development methodology to create meaningful tales from the inside out. Join this Story Development Workshop, designed get you ready to write your next project and give you the tools for endless storytelling for your preferred medium; stage, screen, or any other. Have you always wanted to write, but unsure where to start? Have you ever stared at a blank page with the uncertainty as to which word to type first? This workshop will take you through a series of tools to take your personal experiences, turn them into meaningful stories, remove all the doubts from your writing process, and start creating. Through guided conversations, students will help each other to take their stories to the next level through constructive criticism, as well as experiment with the new tools at their disposition to define a theme, create three dimensional characters, develop the beats of the story, and craft a detailed outline, ready for a pitch or to write the first few pages. Structure Each session will bring a different tool to the student’s storytelling arsenal, guided conversations to refine the students’ ideas, as well as review the progress of the week’s assignments. At the end of the workshop, students will have a detailed outline of a project, which they’ll be able to further develop into a pitch, or to take their first step into writing. If the students decide to take their work further, a public reading of their pitch, or of the first few pages of their project, will be organized. Early Registration Ends March 24 About the Instructor Raphael Dirani Raphael is a playwright, filmmaker, translator, and educator, with 10 years of experience throughout the entertainment industry. He holds an MFA in Film from ArtCenter College of Design, and has delved in development, producing, writing, directing, and distribution, both for the stage and the screen. He is a proud alumn of the Desert Playwrights Retreat, and of the Desert Playwrights Retreat Development Lab, where he developed his latest projects, a translation of Le Libertin by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, and a contemporary translation of Dr. Knock by Jules Romains.
