The Call Sheet: One Year at LACAE Theater in North Hollywood

September 2026 | By Erin Coleman This September marks one year since Future Artists of Los Angeles opened the doors to LACAE Theater in North Hollywood. We’re celebrating with a fall full of live performances, acting classes, film events, and opportunities to create together.

Whether you donated, attended an event, took a class, rented our space, or spread the word, you helped build this home. What began as a fight to preserve a beloved artistic community has grown into a gathering place for actors, filmmakers, writers, faculty, volunteers, and young artists finding their own voices.

For anyone discovering us for the first time, LACAE is the Los Angeles Community of Acting and Entertainment, presented by Future Artists of Los Angeles. Our nonprofit brings training, performances, and creative community together at our North Hollywood theater.

On a personal note, this has been one of the most challenging and deeply rewarding years of my life. Thank you for making LACAE your creative home. Here’s what’s coming up as we begin year two.

September Performances at LACAE Theater


ACT III Solo Shows

Monday, September 21 at 8:00 PM

Our ACT III Resident Company takes the LACAE Stage for an evening of solo storytelling directed by Mary Bleier. Join us as these artists share their work with the community.

Tickets are pay-what-you-can. RSVP required.


Graduation Showcase

Thursday, September 24 at 7:30 PM

Celebrate the graduating ACT III and Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory students as they perform short scenes directed by Deborah Baker Jr. A reception follows, with an opportunity to meet the graduates and celebrate their next steps.

Casting directors, agents, managers, filmmakers, theater artists, and community members are welcome. Help us send these talented performers into the industry with open arms.

Together Onstage: A Community Cabaret

Saturday, September 26

Our third annual cabaret brings together performers from St. Matthew’s and LACAE for an evening celebrating community.

The night begins with a get-to-know-you mixer and live entertainment, followed by comedy, music, and a joint finale co-directed by Perry Hart. Come meet the people who share this creative home and enjoy what happens when we take the stage together.

FALA Fest: Shorts Edition Film Festival

October 2–3, 2026

FALA Fest: Shorts Edition celebrates the filmmakers who live, work, and create in Los Angeles. Join us for short films, conversations about independent filmmaking, and time to connect with fellow artists.

Friday, October 2: Opening Night

The festival begins with an evening Meet & Greet and Networking Mixer in North Hollywood. The location will be shared with ticket holders.

Saturday, October 3: Screenings, Industry Conversations, and Awards

Saturday’s programming takes place at LACAE Theater:

  • 11:00 AM–4:00 PM: Filmmaker and Attendee Networking Lounge in Sawyer’s Playhouse.

  • 12:00–6:00 PM: Three short film screening blocks on the LACAE Stage.

  • 6:30–8:00 PM: Industry Panel & Keynote: Indie Filmmaking in the Modern Entertainment Landscape, featuring keynote speaker Noah Wagner of Echobend Pictures and panelists Meredith Thomas, Rajan Shandil, Monique Impagliazzo, and Anastasia Washington.

  • 8:00–10:00 PM: FALA Fest Awards & Closing Mixer.

Fall Acting Classes and Creative Training


Our fall lineup offers opportunities to work on character, scene study, on-camera performance, voice-over, writing, and musical storytelling. Explore a familiar discipline more deeply or make room for something new in your creative practice.

  • Building the Character with Cameron Britton: Join the Emmy®-nominated actor for a class offered on Zoom, so you can participate from anywhere.

  • Advanced Commercial Voice-Over with Kate Roth: Continue developing your commercial voice-over work.

  • Ultimate Story Machine with Raphaël Dirani: Explore script writing with the filmmaker and director.

  • Meisner Fundamentals with Lara Gold: Study Meisner fundamentals with the actor, director, and drama therapist.

  • Through The Lens: Reps with Tom Markley: Explore on-camera acting through the perspective of a theatrical agent.

  • Acting With Authenticity with Joe Garcia: Join Joe’s scene study class. One spot remains at the time of publication.

  • Sing Your Story with Perry Hart: Bring your acting and singing together through musical storytelling.


Programs for Young Artists

Young Artists Acting Lab with Madylin Sweeten begins in October for performers ages 12–16.

Looking ahead to winter break, Future Artists Winter Camp arrives in January 2027, with Erin Coleman, Adam Chambers, Perry Hart, and Orion Barnes.

Blackmagic Collective: Script to Set

Saturday, September 26, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM | Doors open at 9:45 AM

Join Blackmagic Collective Executive Director Jenn Page at the LACAE Stage for live actor directing and blocking feedback, feature film pitch sessions for PGA producers, and hands-on camera time with Blackmagic Design and Girls With Gear.

There will also be coffee, donuts, networking, and a raffle for an ArtFarm Screenwriter’s Weekend getaway.

Admission is free with RSVP.


Community Shows to See This Fall


Art Crush LA Presents: From the Perspective of a Canoe

Support local theater with the world premiere of From the Perspective of a Canoe, the award-winning play by Los Angeles playwright Amy Dellagiarino.

The production runs September 12–27 at hi5.agency Studios in Pasadena, with performances on Saturdays and Sundays: September 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27.


Force of Nature Presents: Fallen Saints: The Art of Heartbreak

Our friends at Force of Nature return to Sawyer’s Playhouse, upstairs at LACAE Theater, for their annual immersive Halloween theater experience. Enter a dark world of art, mystery, and murder.

Performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays, September 18, 19, 25, 26, and October 2 and 3, at 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM.

Tickets are $25. Seating is intimate, and the production is intended for mature audiences.
