Let the moment change you. This six-week class introduces the foundational principles of the Meisner Technique, an approach to acting rooted in presence, connection, and living truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Through repetition, independent activity, emotional preparation, and scene work, you’ll learn to place your attention on your partner and respond to what is actually happening in the moment. You’ll recognize when you begin anticipating, controlling, or questioning your instincts and develop practical tools for returning to the life of the scene. In this class, you’ll: • Use the repetition exercise to become more present and connected with a scene partner. • Develop greater spontaneity by listening and allowing yourself to be genuinely affected. • Explore independent activity, concentration, stakes, and emotional preparation. • Create emotional life without forcing a feeling or result. • Connect the work to character through relationship, point of view, wants, and needs. • Bring truthful listening into text, objectives, actions, and circumstances. • Integrate Meisner principles into grounded, emotionally available scene work. • Receive individualized feedback and coaching. Whether you are new to Meisner or looking to reconnect with your instincts, this class offers a practical process for becoming more present, responsive, and alive in your work. Instructor Spotlight Lara is a Meisner-trained actor and director who first encountered the technique at The Neighborhood Playhouse, where she studied with Richard Pinter, a student of Sanford Meisner. She has since developed and presented work across a range of stages in collaboration with diverse artists and companies. Lara is also a drama therapist, bringing a deep understanding of presence, connection, and creative expression to her work with actors.
