Young Artist Acting Lab

Service Description

In this six-week acting and creative performance lab, students will explore how observation, imagination, collaboration, and curiosity can shape their work. The actors will be encouraged to ask questions, make choices, experiment, and discover what they want to say as artists. They will hone their performance skills learning how to scale for both onstage and on-camera work. Students will work on scripted materials, taking their piece from the page through rehearsal and an on-camera filming session. From there, they’ll turn their attention outward, observing the people and world around them and using those discoveries to inspire characters, scenes, stories, and performance ideas. The second half of the course becomes a collaborative rehearsal room as students create a showcase together. Each performer will have an opportunity to shine individually while learning how their ideas can strengthen someone else’s work. Throughout the course, students will: • Rehearse, and learn how to perform scripted work both on stage and on-camera. • Film a polished monologue/self-tape for personal use. • Use real-world observation to inspire characters and acting choices. • Develop their own ideas while learning to listen and collaborate. • Rehearse and perform in a live end-of-session showcase. This class will provide young performers with the mentorship and space to discover who they are as artists, what they have to say, and what they can create together. Instructor Spotlight Madylin Sweeten has worked professionally as an actor since childhood and is best known as Ally Barone on all nine seasons of Everybody Loves Raymond. Her credits also include American Splendor, Eagle Eye, Toy Story 2, and Lucifer, along with work as a writer and producer. Having grown up as a working actor herself, Madylin brings a firsthand understanding of developing an artistic voice at a young age.
